yep; it's jus YOU! Gotta keep ya outta our hair so we can raid and pillage like what's in the job description without all that royalty underfoot!j.w wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 8:42 pmI always just first go to Board Index and click on the new posts and keep going back there to see them all. I don't know of any easy way to view all new posts other than thatGemma wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 5:58 pm I'll never have enough time to get caught up on here that's why I'm always the last one to know things
Also I need to figure out the icons for read post, new post etc I thought purple fish = new post and yellow fish= no new posts, but then the red fish I don't know and when all change directions on me what does that mean?
Is it just me and my mouse that is having issues w/each time I click a smiley to add it posts two of the same and I only click once? I always have to remove the 2nd one.

I'm on lunch break enjoying my coffee trying to plan my 3 day weekend around the possible rain
I would really like to get some plants in the pond, finish planting around the house and garage. put together the main planters and finish planting the veggies but if the weather does not cooperate I'm not sure how much I will be able to accomplish

I spent the whole day trimming trees and bushes and hauling all the stuff to the burn pile. The rain was trying to get me but it only showered just a bit so I won!
Now come on rain I don't care!

Re: Watcha doing today?
your weekend sounds like mine; I've always used Memorial Day weekend as the planting weekend, hoping to enjoy Monday AFTER getting everything set. Like you, we have plants to put in the beds, plants to bring up from the basement, south-side weeding (major work), whole yard 'weed look-see' , cut the grass, fertilize the grass, take the stereo back out to the pond (and fix the speaker wire I snipped through last fall!), consider how badly I want to drain part of the pond to get rid of the orange tint, continue jury-rigging my mower until I get it welded, and take more pics of the bloomers.Gemma wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 4:53 pm I'm on lunch break enjoying my coffee trying to plan my 3 day weekend around the possible rain

Hope you get all YOUR to-do list done, Gemma! Supposed to be dry and warm here, after Friday's rain (we'll see how that goes; will mean I work Saturday if it actually arrives!)

Ifn I had time, I'd whip up a girl sticking her tongue out at the clouds above, holding an umbrella in one hand and hedge shears in the other!! Oh, and a dented crown on her head, of course!
Here's hoping you get to actually enjoy the holiday weekend, @j.w !!

Not raining now but showers will be here this afternoon. Bah humbug!
Hard to enjoy anything right now looking outside and seeing my neighbors flag at half mast

Re: Watcha doing today?
so, pretty good holiday overall; Saturday got lots of weeding done (south side perimeter hadn't been done this year yet and I had mrsbrokensword helping! Yay!), then planted our annuals and some perennials, took out the remaining plants from the basement and they are in semi-shade getting used to the intensity of the sun, then out to dinner. We were both tired but the weather was mid to low 70s and just too nice to pass up working outside.
Spent Sunday lounging and setting up the stereo in the pond again before mrsbrokensword saw some 'motion' along one bank of the pond. Well, we're pretty good at spotting such now what with frogs and turtles and recently, a chipmunk found its way in, but it was none of those. For the past couple weeks we've been watching a cardinal family in the euonymus (INSIDE the pondhouse) and it was one of the chicks had fallen/jumped out! Sheesh, so scooped it up and returned it, noting the other nestling was not there, so spent some time looking but didn't find it. Kept looking for a bit, thinking it might have fallen outside the pondhouse, but no, still nothing.
Woke up Monday, set up for more pondhouse lounging and general shirking of responsibilities when mrsbrokensword noticed the cardinal parents were hovering outside near a corner. Sure enough, lil Jumpy had done it again. So, figuring it wasn't great to have it near the pond and the parents didn't look like they were going to come in (I'd pulled the roof screening over and there was less open space -- just that over the nest -- than before, I contemplated returning it once again to the nest. No, it would probably jump out again, so figured I'd move the nest to a nearby crabapple and let the parents fiind it there. Did that, and a couple hours later after messing with the iris (staking, pic taking), noticed Jumpy wasn't in the nest. It was pretty windy, so not sure if it was the nestling's idea or not, but couldn't find it. Then, we heard it and I followed, found it and once again, scooped it up. Wasn't sure what to do this time as putting it in the nest wasn't as sure as before. So, fenced the tree in and returned Jumpy to it, then waited. Sure enough, out he 'fell' but this time, couldn't go anywhere. Didn't know now what to do as we hadn't seen the parents all afternoon. I was googling and worrying I'D be the one to feed it. Jumpy is probably a week away from actually flying, I dunno--not a bird expert exactly--and has feathers but obviously isn't flying yet. Head is a bit weak on feathers but it hopped pretty decently!
Anyway, we watched and finally the mom found her fledgling and feeding is back in her domain! Just not sure what to do about tonight, but figure I'll put it back in the nest around dusk and hope it stays. Not sure if the mom will hang or not and am not sure how long that actually happens anyway. Definitely needs the help/protection though, so...
Crossing my fingers that tomorrow I don't wake up tomorrow morning and find the chicken wire enclosure empty!

Re: Watcha doing today?
Ugh...It is so hard to see the little fledglings on the ground, especially with neighborhood cats around..They always say to leave them be and the parents will protect them but it is unnerving when they don't come around right away...I love cardinals (who doesn't?) and feed only safflower seed to keep out the blackbirds...
Hope all goes well tonight BS...

@brokensword nice of you to try your best but if it keeps jumping out the parents will still follow it around and feed it.
